Flu and Covid Vaccinations – Autumn 2026

Key dates

  • The flu and covid immunisation season starts on Thursday 1st October 2026.
  • We have vaccination clinics running on Saturdays throughout October, starting on Saturday 3rd October.
  • Invitations with booking links have been sent to patients who are eligible.

Flu and covid in one appointment

If you receive an invitation to book for flu and would like (and are eligible for) a covid vaccination, we can give this at the same time, in the same appointment. We also don’t mind if you prefer to come back and have this separately.

Why we recommend our Saturday clinics

Our Saturday clinics tend to be the most successful – they are usually efficient and there is very little queuing.

If you are attending for another appointment during October, you may be able to have your flu vaccination at that appointment. However, it is unlikely we can offer you a covid vaccination during another appointment: there are several doses in each vial, and opening one for one person may lead to us wasting the other doses.

Specific groups

  • Children aged 2–3: We are allowed to offer these in September, so we have made a start! This is a nasal spray. More clinics are available in October.
  • Housebound patients: We are planning to visit our housebound patients in October.
  • Care homes: We are planning to visit care homes in October.
  • Pregnancy: If you are pregnant, your midwife will offer you a flu vaccination (and RSV too). If you miss these, we can give them to you here at the surgery.

Other vaccinations

Aside from flu and covid, we have been inviting eligible patients for these vaccinations over the past few months:

  • RSV
  • Pneumococcal
  • Shingles

Eligibility

Eligibility does vary from year to year. Flu vaccinations are offered to those aged 65 and over (on 31/3/2027) and those in a clinical risk group detailed in the ‘Green Book’. Children aged 2–3 are immunised in the surgery. Older children are immunised via the school programme and should only come to the practice if they have missed all the opportunities throughout the season to have the vaccine at school.

Generally speaking, those aged 75 and over, those who live in care homes for older people and those with immunosuppression will be eligible for Covid vaccination. Note that the age for covid jabs starts at 75, not 65 as it does for flu vaccination.

The official clinical and eligibility information for each vaccine is in the Green Book:

Our nursing team are happy to advise on any other immunisations during your flu (and/or covid) appointment.
